What is new at Albany Tennis Club?

Recent Club Improvements

ATC members will notice two significant and recent improvements to the Club. First, the lighting on the indoor courts has been vastly improved by installing up-to-date fluorescent fixtures. The new fixtures create brighter and more even lighting, are more energy efficient thus reducing our monthly electric bill, and have no warm-up time when turned on. Motion detectors have been installed so that the lights will turn off when there are no players on the court! The second improvement involves our upstairs lounge. You will notice new furniture including bistro tables and chairs, a new cabinet, and comfortable lounge chairs. The old furniture has been removed and will be donated to Furniture Share. We hope the new furniture will be more conducive for social events including USTA league competition.

Such improvements are the result of much hard work by the ATC Board, Club management, and volunteer members. Please find time to thank Board members and Len Spencer. In particular, Andrew Koll and Ron Reimers guided the acquisition of the new lighting while Sue Wilson spearheaded the lounge project with help from the Koll family putting together the tables and chairs.

Billing 30-day Grace Period

ATC strives to run an effective and efficient organization aimed at excellent tennis instruction and a safe family-friendly atmosphere. As a member-owned nonprofit organization, the Club’s operating budget is designed to fulfill the organization’s goals while keeping member dues at a reasonable level. To that end, the Club runs on a very tight monthly budget with little room for delinquent member accounts. Club policy states that “A $5 late fee will be charged on accounts 30 days past due”. Until recently, members paying beyond the 30-day grace period have been few and the late fee has been waived. The number of delinquent accounts; however, has been growing steadily and the budget is being negatively affected. The ATC Board has therefore instructed management to begin assessing the $5 late fee on all accounts 30 days past due beginning January 1, 2011.
