“Dear ATC,
This letter is to inform the membership that I will be stepping down as the Manager/Tennis Professional effective December 1, 2008. As of January 2009, I will be fulfilling my long-time desire to continue my education to become a high school counselor and will be attending OSU and entering their Master’s program.
In keeping with the Club's best interest, I have been waiting for the right time to continue my education. When I heard that Travis Lewin (my former coach) was interested in getting back into coaching, I knew that this would be the best move for the Club. Travis has been not just one of my coaches but a friend over the last fifteen years, and I know he brings a great deal of experience and passion with him.
I would like to thank you all for the amazing love and support you have shown me the last three years, and I know you'll show him the same. This has been a wonderful club with a membership who has been willing to donate both time and patience to see that it and I succeed and continue to grow. I couldn't have done it without you.
Thanks so much,
Tim Layman”
Upon Tim’s recommendation and the Board having interviewed him, the Board has hired Travis to become ATC’s new Manager/Tennis Professional effective December 1, 2008. Until the 1st, he will be working with Tim at the club and involved in all of the tennis programs with Tim. The Board is every pleased to have someone of Travis’ background and experience!!! Please introduce yourself and give him a warm welcome to ATC. Below is Travis’ letter to you.
“Dear ATC Members,
As your new Manager/Tennis Pro at Albany Tennis Club, please let me tell you a little about myself. I was born and raised in Salem and have been playing competitive tennis since I was l3 years old. After college, I had the opportunity to manage the tennis program at 4 Star Tennis Academy in the greater Washington, DC, area. After managing the tennis program at 4 Star and the birth of our first child, my wife Shelly and I decided it was time to return home to raise our family. Upon returning to Salem, I was the head professional at Salem Tennis and Swim Club for five years. In summary, I have over 15 years of tennis instruction and management experience. I have also played competitively at the Open Level as well as at USTA 5.0 Level. In 1994, I went to the USTA 5.0 nationals in New Orleans. I feel every player, whether involved in the sport of tennis recreationally or competitively, should receive the best I have to offer. It is my goal at Albany Tennis Club to see every player from beginner to advanced have a fun learning experience which will lead them to a lifetime enjoyment of the game.
My wife, Shelly, and I have been married for 25 years and have two sons. Shelly is a customer service manager with Safeway. Casey is a recent graduate of Western Oregon University with a degree in health and human biology. He is planning on attending nursing school in the near future. My youngest son, Dana, is a senior at Sprague High School, where he is active in the sports of football and baseball.
My family and I look forward to our annual camping trips with relatives each year at the Oregon coast. Other activities include participating and watching all levels of sports from youth programs thru college programs. We are also very involved in the athletic programs at Sprague as well as active members in the Sprague Booster Club.
I’m looking forward to meeting all of you and joining you on the courts!
Sincerely,
Travis Lewin”
